The central spaces of the city, places of reference in the historical fabric as well as in the “villes nouvelles”, represent a recurring issue: a complex problem that continually interweaves references between different situations, experiments and theoretical positions. The three experiences illustrated here represent a stimulating contribution to this problem. They are located in very different realities but express close moments of a constant research for the redesign of urban spaces and places of aggregation in the city.
Reggio Emilia, Vicenza and Melun Senart are different aspects of a single project, of a single thesis that is becoming more precise over time.
Not something exhaustive, but open logics that are refined and clarified. The cover image is emblematically of Naples and the transformation of Piazzale Tecchio into a square. The project affirms the prevalence of relationships, identifies links that reconnect the individual buildings: objects, trees, light, water, sounds and intangible relationships are all part of the design of the space.
In the appendix
Two writings, a speech at the “Journée d’étude du Carré Bleu – Paris / Fondation Le Corbusier” and an essay on the relationship between geometry and topology for the construction of the image, are presented as “Ouverture au debat”.
